In its inaugural event, the Indians-sponsored Tribe Hackathon issued a challenge to tech-savvy creatives across the Cuyahoga: enhance the ballpark experience, utilizing technology to illustrate the love of the game.
Create a cutting-edge approach to summertime’s most beloved sport by improving the ballpark experience through the development of a mobile application.
Construct an app that uses augmented reality to enrich the ballpark experience for everyone – from the diehard Tribe fan to the casual spectator
Dubbed “hARdball,” the first-place-winning, one-of-a-kind app transforms your mobile device into an interactive encyclopedia of the ballpark experience. When a user faces his/her phone toward the gameplay, the app displays the players on the field, from that exact viewpoint. From there, users can discover players’ stats, batting music, and recent social media posts, interacting with the team in real-time.
Catering to all tastes (quite literally), the app also provides a comprehensive, interactive map of the stadium’s eateries. Armed with location info, menus, and Yelp reviews, the app will guide you to your ideal ballpark meal. With so many spectators relying on cell phones for more in-depth game updates, hARdball bridges the gap and brings them back into the game.
