Defending Childhood is an initiative sponsored by the United States Department of Justice. Cuyahoga County is one of seven national sites that have committed to the Defending Childhood initiative. The organization’s mission is to raise awareness of the adverse emotional and physical effects of childhood violence.
How do we raise awareness of the childhood violence epidemic when our audience is oversaturated with advertising and desensitized to violence?
Make the public believe that the worst thing they can do is to do nothing.
Recess created a yearlong campaign to raise awareness in the Cleveland community about the adverse effects of violence on kids age 6-16. The core of the campaign is driven by a combination of powerful school photo images and potent facts that telegraph the negative impact of violence on our youth. The campaign launched with online, traditional and digital media.
